Meet Our Staff
Alex is in his 3rd year working at Trek & Trail. He graduated from Vermilion College in Ely, MN with a degree in Outdoor Leadership and Backcountry Guiding. He has been on many camping trips in the Islands and BWCA. He enjoys camping, hiking, and kayaking, but when the sun isn't shining you can find him skiing. Alex is excited to be back in the islands to show people this wonderful area.
Sari was born with a love for all things wild and a curiosity for life on earth. They grew up canoeing the Little Miami, climbing Red River Gorge and exploring all terrains of Glacier National Park before pursuing a career in primatology and husbandry. Sari has a passion for education and conservation - knowing that as much as nature can challenge us, she can equally embrace us - and they are very excited to build new experiences with others in the Apostle Islands.
Elsa was lucky enough to have grown up on the shores of Lake Superior, spending summers paddling in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Whether it is a short day trip or a 10 day adventure, she is always excited to be out on the water. And when she’s not paddling, you can catch her playing guitar, hiking, and spending time with her friends, family, and dog. Elsa hopes that each guest she takes out develops a personal connection with this amazing lake. She can’t wait to spend the summer enjoying the beauty of Lake Superior with everyone.
This will be Mads’ 3rd season with Trek & Trail! When she is not paddling in the islands, she loves kayaking, canoeing, and taking backpacking trips in the Rockies and on the West Coast. A few summers ago she summited Mt Shasta, over 14,000 ft tall! This summer you will find Mads both on the water and behind the desk, ready to check you in for your adventure with a smile!
Nick is in his second season of kayak guiding with Trek and Trail. He is from Ashland, WI and has enjoyed growing up in this beautiful region. He has always had a love for the outdoors from growing up in a rural area, and through his time in Boy Scouts. He is very excited to continue his journey in the outdoor industry in the coming years, with plans to keep developing skills in climbing, backpacking, and of course sea kayaking. Nick loves his work as a Sea Kayak guide because it allows him to work in an inspiring setting, create close friendships with fellow guides, connect with diverse guests, and share the serene beauty of Lake Superior.
This is Mae’s second summer guiding with Trek & Trail. She grew up in the area and is happiest when she has a paddle in her hands! When Mae isn’t in her kayak exploring the Apostles, she is in a canoe navigating the BWCA. She can’t believe her job is to take people kayaking and be in the great outdoors. Sharing this corner of Wisconsin with the world is Mae’s type of fun.
This will be Stasz’s fourth summer guiding with Trek and Trail, and he spends his winters studying Applied Ecology & Environmental Science at Michigan Technological University. He has been on the water in paddle powered boats all his life and loves nothing more than showing people the beauty in our little corner of Lake Superior. Stasz is a big fan of plants, geology, and anything relating to the outdoors and is excited to share that passion with you!
This year will be the fourth year Bobbi has been guiding on lake superior and will be her second year working and exploring the Apostle islands. Previously she has worked at the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore along with some extended trips in the wilderness of Canada, northern Michigan and even Alaska. Bobbi studied environmental science with a focus on Ecosystems at University of New Hampshire and also studied environmental sustainability at Northern Michigan University. In her free time she enjoys all things outside including skiing, hiking, scuba diving, camping and building sick forts. Bobbi has grown up exploring the natural world around her and is so excited to share her passion for the outdoors with everyone she meets (including you!).
This will be Mason’s 4th year guiding on Lake Superior! This will be his 2nd year at T&T. Before, he guided at the Pictured Rock National Lakeshore. He recently graduated from Northern Michigan University with a mathematics and computer science degree. Growing up loving the outdoors, he spent every moment he could going backpacking, rock climbing, hiking, or kayaking. Mason is excited to be back at T&T and to make and share another summer of memories.
Hannah has a deep passion for the natural world around her, and has been working to connect communities all over the country with the outdoors professionally for three years. This is Hannah’s first season with Trek and Trail, but second summer guiding in the Apostle Islands. With an academic foundation from Saint Olaf College in Sociology/Anthropology and Biology, Hannah loves exploring the relationship between people and their environment, and is excited to continue facilitating up-close-and-personal encounters with one of the world’s most majestic water landscapes! Hannah’s friends know her as someone who is always trying to be outside and on the water paddling – you’d think doing it every day for your job would be enough, but it isn’t! When she’s off the water, Hannah is scheming, planning, and participating in adventures with her friends and family. She is looking forward to all the adventures and experiences this summer has to offer!
This is Laine’s first summer guiding with Trek & Trail. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois, but has always loved being outdoors, hiking, reading, doing yoga, biking, and kayaking (of course). She will graduate in May of 2025 from Illinois State University with a degree in Geography with a minor in environmental studies. She is stoked to share her passion for the environment and spend her summer on the beautiful waters of Lake Superior with everyone!
Anders has spent time kayaking and exploring the lake since he was a kid. He just finished his first year at UW-Madison and is currently undecided as to his major. Right now, he is excited to spend the summer on the lake and get to know everyone. When not on the lake, he is typically found lifting weights, running, cooking, reading, or listening to music!
We met at Trek & Trail in 2016. For several summers we worked as sea kayak guides, reveling in the opportunity to sustain employment outside, surrounded by beautiful water. In 2019, our love for adventure brought us to Alaska. We worked and played with an incredible outdoor community in Seward on the Kenai Peninsula. While the Pacific Ocean and its magnificent fjords dazzled us, we couldn't stop thinking about Lake Superior. Alaska was our playground, but the Apostle Islands were home. In 2022, we moved back to Bayfield and began a years' long journey to fulfill our dream: find a way to be Lake Superior kayak guides for life.
